How big is a marla?
There are two marlas in everyday use. Most housing societies — DHA, Bahria Town and the newer schemes — count a marla as 225 square feet, so a kanal (20 marla) is 4,500 sq ft and a "10 marla house" sits on 2,250 sq ft. Land revenue records and many older neighbourhoods use the older marla of 272.25 square feet, so a kanal is 5,445 sq ft and 8 kanal make an acre (43,560 sq ft).
When you compare plots, check which marla the seller means — the same "10 marla" can differ by over 470 sq ft. On Matti, sizes are compared at 225 sq ft a marla.
