Johar Town is one of Lahore's biggest planned schemes, laid out by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) in lettered blocks. It has grown into a busy, self-contained part of the city with everything a family needs close by.

What's here

  • Emporium Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in Pakistan.
  • Expo Centre Lahore, which hosts trade shows and exhibitions through the year.
  • Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, on the edge of the scheme.
  • Plenty of schools, colleges and the University of the Punjab's campus nearby, which keeps rental demand from students and young families steady.

The Canal Road and the Lahore Ring Road connect Johar Town to the rest of the city.

Who it suits

  • Families looking for a planned area at a price below DHA and Gulberg.
  • Investors buying to rent — flats and portions near the colleges rarely stay empty for long.
  • Small businesses on the main commercial roads.

What to check

  1. Block by block. Some blocks are older and fully built; others still have plots. Prices follow.
  2. LDA paperwork. Transfers in an LDA scheme go through the LDA — make sure the seller's papers match the authority's record.
  3. Portions and floors. Many houses are let floor by floor. If you're renting, be clear which parts and which meters are yours.
